Ted Kinney, CIC, CPCU, ARM, CPIA, AAI, AU, AINS, CRIS, AAM

Ted Kinney is the owner/President of Kinney Training and Consulting, LLC, which specializes in providing quality insurance training programs to agencies and companies throughout the United States.

Ted also serves as the Director of Education and Technical Affairs for the Alabama Independent Insurance Agents in Birmingham, Alabama. In this position, he is responsible for developing agent education programs and providing technical assistance to association members.

Ted has been in the insurance business since his graduation from the Ohio State University in 1973. During his career, he has worked as an underwriter, field sales manager, department supervisor, marketing specialist, trainer and insurance agent. From 1994 to 2003, Ted was the Director of Curriculum and Faculty Development for PIA of Ohio & Indiana. During that time, he developed over 150 training courses covering all aspects of the insurance industry.

He has obtained several insurance designations including Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC), Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Associate in Risk Management (ARM), Associate in Underwriting (AU), Associate in Automation Management (AAM), Accredited Advisor in Insurance (AAI), Associate in General Insurance (AINS), Certified Professional Insurance Agent (CPIA) and Construction Risk and Insurance Specialist (CRIS).

He is a member of the national faculty of the Society of Certified Insurance Counselors, the American Insurance Marketing Society (CPIA) and the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of America’s “ask the expert” service. In addition, Ted is a member of the Society of Certified Insurance Counselors, and the National Academy of Producer Insurance Studies.

Rick Pitts, J.D.

Richard S. Pitts is a private practice attorney in the insurance industry. Rick serves as Vice-President and General Counsel to Arlington/Roe & Co., Inc., an insurance brokerage and managing general agent headquartered in Indianapolis. Rick also serves as general counsel to the Independent Insurance Agents of Indiana, Inc., as well as its sister organization in Kentucky. As counsel to the “Big I,” Rick speaks annually at the association’s Agency Compliance Seminars and teaches various seminars on insurance and employment related matters. Pitts has also presented continuing education seminars to insurance professionals nationally through industry groups including the National Alliance for Insurance Education and Research.

Rick is a 1983 graduate of Wabash College and a 1986 graduate of Indiana University School of Law – Indianapolis. Pitts clerked for the Honorable Patrick D. Sullivan, a judge of the Indiana Court of Appeals in 1986-87. Rick is admitted to practice before Indiana state and federal courts, the United States Supreme Court and the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit and is a member of local, state and national bar associations. Pitts has tried cases and participated in over seventy appeals.

Pitts, the recipient of the “Excellence in Continuing Legal Education Award,” has served as a panelist and lecturer on a variety continuing education subjects, including the Americans with Disabilities Act, “Mold: Issues Under the Microscope” for the Indiana Continuing Legal Education Forum (ICLEF), and “Insurance Issues for Builders” for the Indiana Builders Association. Rick has also served as chair of several of ICLEF’s seminars, including “Invasion of the Drones,” “Advanced Corporate Practice,” “Privacy Law,” and “Insurance Coverage Issues.” Rick has also presented seminars on “Insuring Fiduciary Exposures,” “Insurance Coverage Disputes,” and “Agency Succession and Perpetuation,” for the Independent Insurance Agents of Indiana. Pitts has co-authored two articles appearing in the Indiana Law Review.

Please check with your state to see continuing education credits. In Oklahoma- this is approved for 16 general hours. 

Cancellation Policy

We realize that “life gets in the way” and sometimes our stakeholders cannot avoid canceling, transferring and registering late for events. It is important to understand that every event that we host involves both hard and soft costs to the organization and we must be good stewards of our resources. We will refund 100% funds up to one week within class date. If canceling within one week of class, we will refund 50% of the registration fee. You may be able to transfer funds from one class to a future class for free if a member to the Association.
